Race Discrimination Commissioner appointed

The Australian Human Rights Commission welcomes Mr Chin Tan as the incoming Race Discrimination Commissioner.

Mr Tan was most recently Director of Multicultural Engagement at Swinburne University in Melbourne.

Prior to this Mr Tan was Chairperson and Commissioner of the Victorian Multicultural Commission.

He is a recognised leader within the multicultural community, and has served on various government, council and community bodies and associations.

“I look forward to working with Mr Tan as Race Discrimination Commissioner in countering racism and enhancing the success of multiculturalism in Australia,” said Commission President Emeritus Professor Rosalind Croucher.

Mr Tan is a lawyer by profession and has worked as a partner at several Melbourne firms.

He will commence his term on Monday October 8.
